Focus on the growth market of holiday rentals

Tourism Minister Madsen underlines the importance of the industry with a welcome address at DOMIZIL Husum 2024

Husum, April 03, 2024 - The spring break also marks the start of the season for landlords of vacation apartments and vacation homes. Despite a satisfactory booking situation in many cases and top statistical results in terms of guest numbers in 2023, industry experts also see room for improvement. "As a joint forum for vacation home owners and agencies, furnishers, planners, IT and marketing service providers, the DOMIZIL trade fair highlights development opportunities to strengthen the industry for the future," says Meike Kern, Managing Director of Messe Husum & Congress.

Professionals for greater returns
DOMIZIL Husum aims to create a win-win situation for exhibitors and visitors. This year, for the first time, there will be a networking area for vacation home agencies and private hosts. Figures from the German Holiday Home Association show that 82 percent of vacation homes are rented privately. However, only very few providers of private accommodation would resort to the professional support of agencies, the use of which could increase returns. In order to close the possible information gaps here, an area is planned for an informal contact and network offer for the exchange of landlords and professional vacation home agencies.

New space for lifestyle trends
For Meike Kern, formerly responsible for the world's leading trade fair Heimtextil in Frankfurt, it's not just about improving key business figures, but also about the emotional aspect of a vacation home: "We show the future trends of living in different facets. Seeing and feeling new colors and current living trends - these are things that a trade fair is wonderfully suited for." The large-scale lifestyle experience, together with a series of other planned innovations, will ensure an appealing expansion of DOMIZIL, says Kern.
In addition to exhibitors of furniture and sleeping comfort, lighting and home textiles, providers of digital solutions for booking and management are also expected. The first press release Agencies and portals for vacation rentals as well as service providers in the craft and marketing sectors have also announced their participation. The exhibition areas will be livened up by tiny houses, sustainable vacation oases in the smallest of spaces. Anyone who would like to be an exhibitor in the field of vacation rentals still has time to register in the next five months.

The vacation home industry as an employer
It is certain that interesting speakers will once again be part of DOMIZIL. The presentations planned so far will provide answers to current questions: for example, how do you increase occupancy, avoid a renovation backlog or use tools for booking and management? There will also be questions on maintaining the quality of life in the region and the major issue of staffing requirements. The latter will also be addressed for the first time in the supporting program of DOMIZIL Husum. For example, there will be a new area where employers and job seekers can get to know each other in an informal setting.
The fifth edition of the trade fair for vacation rentals will also take place as a three-day live event from Friday to Sunday, November 8-10. Minister Claus Ruhe Madsen will be the celebrity speaker at the opening. The Danish-German entrepreneur and politician (CDU) has been responsible for the economy, transport, employment, technology and tourism in Schleswig-Holstein since the end of June 2022. Madsen is therefore not only focusing on the situation for skilled workers on the labor market, but also on strengthening the quality of tourism in Schleswig-Holstein.
DOMIZIL Husum 2024 is also geared towards the long-term and sustainable development of tourism in Schleswig-Holstein and throughout the north, with many fresh and new ideas. Kern: "We want to offer our visitors what characterizes good hosts, namely to exceed expectations!"
